Stepping-up for positive change:

  • One of my first roles in the district was as Chair of Fox Elementary School PTA’s Parks & Grounds Committee. I successfully fought for repairs to our broken playground and wrote grants for new trees and custodial equipment. I consistently advocate for RPS funding, and remain active as a former RPS parent in Support Our Schools and StayRVA.
  • I also served as Fan District Association (FDA) President,  Grants Co-Chair, and  Parks & Trees Chair. In these roles I helped neighbors with general city services like trash, lighting, flooding & sidewalks as well as zoning and other issues. I also successfully advocated for increasing proceeds from our Holiday House Tour fundraiser to our public schools (Fox, Binford and TJ).
  • Outside of the 2nd, I served 4 years as a member of Richmond's Green City Commission.  I'm proud to have spearheaded the NetZero 2050 Resolution which was adopted June 8 by City Council, as well as helping introduce sustainability goals into city contracts and master plans.  I've loved meeting with neighbors from Carver to Scott's Addition to hear their sustainability initiatives. Together we can build a more resilient and equitable city. To become involved, visit the just launched: www.RVAGreen2050.com
  • At the state and national level, I was honored to be part of the VAratifyERA leadership team.  After three years of  advocacy and organizing, our General Assembly finally ratified the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) in a bipartisan vote.  Equality in all forms should be the rule.

My parents, Dan & Lou Jordan, were history professors at VCU and UR.  Early memories include baseball at the Diamond and exploring the VMFA with my mom.  While I always considered myself a Richmonder, I was too young to realize we actually lived in Henrico!  After several decades and addresses, I'm back as a "real" Richmonder living in the Fan with my husband,  2 girls, cat, dog and on-street parking.  We wouldn't have it any other way.

After getting my graduate degree in Urban & Environmental Planning  from UVA,  I learned Project Management at the architecture and urban design firm Cooper, Robertson & Partners in NYC.  I then served as Duke University Health System’s Assistant Director for Campus Design & Sustainability where I led master planning and sustainability projects across 240 acres and $700 million in new construction and renovations. I know how to work with city planning departments, private consultants and community partners.

Throughout my life,  I've consistently filled leadership roles because I'm happiest when serving my community and working to improve the lives of others. This has been from the neighborhood level supporting our schools up to the large scale as part of the team behind the campaign to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) in Virginia.  Whether it's for the environment, school funding or gender equality, I step forward to lead and secure positive change. I would be honored to do that for the 2nd.
